Our
Story

Flamencollab was founded by Melbourne-born flamenco dancer Cherie Morgan. Her love for the art form began as a child through flamenco and Classical Spanish dance classes. By the time Cherie had finished high school, her passion for flamenco had grown so strong that she moved to Madrid, eager to immerse herself deeper in the culture and craft.
In 2014, while undertaking full-time training at the Fundación Cristina Heeren in Seville, Cherie met fellow Australian dancer Jessica MacCallum-Cruz. Years later, upon reuniting in Melbourne, the two were inspired to create a performance duo. Cherie name it "Flamencollab", which combined two components she felt were at the heart of their mission. The art of flamenco, and the spirit of collaboration.
However, due to the unexpected arrival of COVID 19 in 2020, the duo’s plans were abruptly halted as live gigs were cancelled and lockdowns enforced.
Through this time of uncertainty, Cherie was determined to keep dancing and sharing the art form she loved. Realising that connection through flamenco was something vital she could offer, Cherie re-imagined Flamencollab’s purpose and transformed it into a dance school. Classes began online, and from those early virtual sessions, a beautiful, supportive community started to grow.
Since its beginnings, Flamencollab has flourished – producing four large theatre showcases, performing at events across Melbourne, and opening its own dedicated studio in Brunswick. More than just a dance school, it is a circle of people bound by a love of flamenco, where teacher and students learn and grow together – celebrating highs, navigating challenges, and supporting one another through it all. Cherie values her students deeply and feels privileged to dream, create, and dance alongside them. She believes the school’s growth is a testament to the incredible people who make up the Flamencollab community and to the shared journey they continue to embrace together.
